RAIL SAFETY FIRST INSTAGRAM FEED
The Lac-Mégantic trial has concluded and the three men were found not guilty. Safety culture is being blamed. But doesn’t safety culture start with management and the board? And shouldn’t Transport Canada be responsible for the oversight of such safety culture? It’s been nearly 5 years and still no public inquiry. Yet crude oil still rolls through major cities and towns across Canada. It’s time for @marcgarneau and @liberalca to take REAL action on this issue.
Toronto is fortunate to have a lot of overpasses which eliminates the dangers presented by level crossings. But in the wake of the Amtrak tragedy we are looking at the overpasses a little more closely...Speed limits in urban cities are just a mere suggestion and rarely if ever enforced by the Rail companies or Transport Canada.
Discussion topic: This could still happen. Canadians who live or work within 5Km of the rails really aren’t much safer than they were in 1979.... consider this excerpt and tell us how well you’ll sleep tonight: “explosions sent shock waves 50 kilometres and flames reached 40-storey heights, yellow clouds of chlorine gas – the stuff that killed thousands of soldiers in the First World War – belched into the air.” Via @thetorontostar
Looks like CN had an oopsy in Illinois. At what point does carrying crude oil through cities, towns and environmentally sensitive areas start to seem like a really bad idea....via @chicagotribune
CN's @shipcn weekend wasn't much better than @canadianpacific - a locomotive spilled powdered acid in a rail yard near Vaughan - if there is a silver lining here at least it didn't happen twice!
Good grief 😳@canadianpacific train derails TWICE in two days in Bawlf, ALta & Wilkie, Sask. Thankfully no injuries but seriously?!
Mother's Unite! Let's put a stop to explosive oil rolling through our cities. Voice your concerns to your MP....see our website for details 👆P.S. That's the @fourseasons in the background
"The only way you'll never have a derailment is if you never run a train." - CEO Keith Creel from @canadianpacific ....... not exactly reassuring words for residents as highly explosive oil trains run through towns and cities across North America daily. #dangerousgoods #oilbyrail #bombtrains #cdnpoli #railsafety #saferail #railsafetyfirst
A Transportation Safety Board report says the circumstances that led to a railcar rolling out of control through the streets of Regina last year, passing through seven intersections, could have been prevented. Via @cbc
Oil by rail in outdated tank cars rolls across Toronto's Mt. Pleasant bridge earlier today...just feet away from houses and schools. Tell your MP this needs to stop. Visit our website for more info and a letter you can download.
Our new site is up! Link in bio. Find critical information about RAIL SAFETY and download a letter you can send to your MP. It's time for Canadians (and our US neighbours!) to demand change. Justin Trudeau and Transport Minister Marc Garneau need to make public safety a priority. @justinpjtrudeau @marcgarneau @liberalca
Canadian Pacific Railway is directly responsible for damages caused when a runaway train carrying crude oil derailed in 2013 in Lac-Megantic, according to new allegations recently filed in court by the Quebec government via @globeandmail
NYC's High Line is proof that community advocacy can strengthen cities.... Imagine a green space for pedestrians instead of #dangerousgoods running through Midtown Toronto?
According to documents obtained by @washingtonpost in 2016 nearly 8% of workers involved in US rail accidents were positive for drug use. How is the railroad industry going to address this growing problem?
This is Bill Ackman and Hunter Harrison. They look pretty happy, don't they?
Maybe it's because since 2012 these two Americans have turned Canadian Pacific Rail into one of the best performing railways in North America.
How did they do it? They implemented "scheduled railroading" which involves sticking to a rigid schedule, guaranteeing customers delivery within a certain number of hours....regardless of the safety risks.
Be it lumber or highly volatile crude oil these guys have one objective: profits.
The evidence? Ackman stepped down from @canadianpacific today with an estimated net worth of 1.7B USD 🤑🤑🤑 📷: @cdnbiz
Just finished reading the TSB's report on the January 13 2015 derailment in Dublin, ON (along the shores of Lake Superior) and it's certainly an eye-opener (link in profile). Hopefully the investigation into the CP derailment in mid-town Toronto won't take 18 months!!! #derailment #toronto #oilbyrail #tsb #cprail #dangerousgoods
